At onion crops pre emergent herbicides shall be applied over naked soil before weeds emerge. Herbicide persistence in soil is linked with the organic matter and clay content, as to the crop management. With the aim to propose a weed control management, soils from onion crops conducted by farmers of the low valley from Río Negro were characterized. At the 2015 season, soil samples compounded of 15 subsamples at 5 cm deep from 12 fields were taken (n = 4). There were assessing: pH, electric conductivity, organic matter contend and texture composition. Soils samples showed a pH between 6.33 y 8.33; electric conductivity between 0.8 y 4.21 mS/cm; organic matter between 1.95 y 4.73 g/100g and clay between 22.5 y 52.5 g/100g. All the soil active herbicides once applied and at the moment they get in contact with soil keep detained (adsorbed) by the colloidal fraction increasing their persistence, the high heterogeneity showed by the assayed soils did difficult to make only one recommendation for weeds management at pre emergency for the whole valley.
