During the last few years, along with new economic, political and cultural processes, changes in physiognomy, population composition and activities have been taking place in many neighbourhoods. Consequently, new voices, concerned with the imminent lost of identity of the affected neighbourhoods, have arisen: these are the heritage local associations. This article aims to clarify the relationship between this "neighbourhood identity" and the protection of heritage, understanding neighbourhood themselves as cultural products; in other words, as a disputed field in terms of the territorial, historical and emotional, which manifests itself when this image is threatened.
