The aim of the following study is to analyze the visibility of labour protest given by the mass media. In this research, the centralized and concentrated mass media are considered political and economic actors, and not neutral platforms of discourses circulation. This work is part of a larger research in which we analyzed, previously, the images built by the leading Argentine newspaper, Clarín, on trade union dynamics and labour protests, after the 2001 crisis in Argentina. Because of that the capitalism is restructured and reproduced to ensure itself survival, their crisis move also geographically and temporally. So, we wonder: how the discursive mechanisms of representation were reproduced in other countries? To get an answer, we decided to analyze Italy, affected by high levels of unemployment and companies closures; and with a strongly concentrated mass media system. The hypothesis that guides this comparative study is that the legitimacy or delegitimizing given by the mass media to labour protest, workers and trade unions, influence on the configuration of social imaginaries through the which ones is “impossible” consider alternative by outside the capitalist system.
