In a context of growing interest in the development of agri-food systems based on socially and environmentally sustainable practices, agroecological production stands out as an alternative due to its holistic approach that seeks to harmonize agricultural processes with the surrounding ecosystems. One of its distinctive features is the collective generation of knowledge through the collaboration between the scientific, academic, productive, and public management sectors. Given its intrinsic characteristics, fruit production, including kiwi cultivation, has great potential to incorporate agroecological practices. However, such transitions cannot be addressed only from the production sector. This work describes the process that allowed the articulation of the interests of different participants in the kiwi production chain in the southeast of Buenos Aires, to design an ‘agroecological beacon’, a reference site aimed at promoting agroecological production. This design was based on a participatory approach that involved various stakeholders in the production sector. Through different exchange instances (virtual meetings, field visits, participatory workshops), an interdisciplinary working group was formed to address the development of productive strategies that went beyond the initially proposed design of the beacon. The consolidation of this group is crucial for scaling up agroecological production, recognizing that the joint development of work plans allows for the visibility of the producer’s perspective and increases the adoption of the designed technologies.
