Presupossing the central feature of imaginative activity in Hobbesian anthropological context, I analyze in this paper the function of imagination in Thomas Hobbes’s political proposal. The English philosopher distinguishes between simple imagination and compounded imagination. Hobbes calls fiction the product of the compounded one. While simple imagination depends directly on sensitive knowledge, compounded imagination includes creative activity which goes further sensitive movement and transforms imagination in a power of the mind. This last kind of imagination is entailed with Hobbesian political proposal, emphasizing in the paper different types of fictions that can be found in his project.
