The article revisits the proposals that José Ingenieros and José Ramos Mejía carried out around simulation in order to show that elements are derived from them that can nurture current sociological debates about the incidence of mimesis in social life. In particular, it recovers the developments concerning the comparison of simulation with imitation and animal mimicry; the different types of simulation and crowd man’s “character”. This kind of analysis: a) allow us to observe both the natural “and” artificial condition of simulation, b) notice about the existence of more-than-functional forms of simulation and with situations in which the agent loses the control of the maneuver and c) contribute to criticizing the liberal notion of individual and to comprehend the impact that suggestive dynamic has both in shaping of subjetivity and in defining the hierarchies that permeate modern society.
