This article disseminates the work carried out to specify the theoretical object of the sociology of natural resources. It is a theoretical-methodological proposal that had as its objective the exploration of almost four decades of discussions that have contributed the most to the study of the relationship between social practices and natural resources; which allowed abstracting and delimiting this relationship as an autonomous object of study. The purpose and scope that this proposal intends to have is the outline of a theory that provides answers to questions formulated from a historically contextualized, non-deterministic perspective and where the contradictions raised in material production play a priority role. The sociological approach to the problem does not arise from an empiricist position, but rather starts from a theoretical reality, thus the desire to specify a special theory of natural resources also requires the construction of the concept of its object.
