Throughout this article, I am interested in acconunt for a research experience on / with documents produced by a police force in the middle of the 70’s, in the Córdoba province (Argentina). In an introductory way, the text begins with my encounter with one of the one hundred and three Guard Books of the Comando Radioeléctrico, found randombly among trash and debris, and now protected by the Provincial Archive of Memory. Next, I propose some theoretical-methodological reflections about the implications of performing an analysis of documents based on an ethnographic approach. Taking Appadurai’s (1986) proposal to think objects as ‚beings’ with ‚biographical value’, I describe and analyze three contexts / moments, which I have defined as ‚keys’, in the ‚biographical trajectory’: that of its production; that of its finding in a police warehouse; and that of its resignification in trials for crimes against humanity. Thus, the description and analysis of its course allows to problematize and to complicate the way in which this particular type of documents were successively produced, filed, hidden or rejected, looked for and (re) found, at different moments by different state agents in the frame of particular political and public fights.
