The present work aims to analyze the short stories “Teresa”, “Bernardina” and “Florinda” from Hebe Uhart’s Cuentos completos (2019) through the lens of affect theory. First, it establishes points of comparison regarding the first-person accounts of migration to Buenos Aires, addressing causes related to gender -such as roles, violence, and mandates- as well as the search for employment and the possibility of change. Second, it equates the affective orientations that the protagonists adopt toward the objects they encounter in the new city, their jobs and their daily development. In each case, this affective orientation presents instances of mismatch that carry over into the construction of the narrative. Anecdotes, stories and scenes prevail in which the first-person narrator exhibits a lack of alignment with her surrounding space. Nevertheless, rather than being a sign of dissatisfaction, the discursive strategies and the construction of orality -combined with the inadequacy- transform the first-person account into an appropriation of the enunciative position. This process dismantles the rigid structures of violence experienced in past lives and paves the way for the comedy of belonging within an environment and for the modulations and rhythms of life itself.
