This article analyzes the educational experiences of children who live and study at a rural boarding school located in Pampa de Olaen, in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. The study is carried out in connection with a university extension project based at the School of Philosophy and Humanities of the National University of Córdoba. Grounded in a socio-anthropological approach, the analysis is built through the reconstruction of a series of ethnographic scenes that allow us to explore the web of meanings produced in this context and to identify various processes of appropriation and subversion. At the same time, the article reflects on the participants’ positions of enunciation, particularly regarding the relationship established between the university and the school. We focus specifically on the following dimensions of experience: first, school temporalities, examining how the timelines and dynamics of the extension project come into tension with those of the school itself; second, forms of participation, focusing on the project’s co-construction approach and the ways in which school actors appropriate and reinterpret it; and finally, in a more exploratory manner, school selectivity and groupings, attending to kinship ties among the children, the notions of family shaped through school life, and the multigrade classroom dynamics that foster affinities across students from first to sixth grade.
