During the 2016 monitoring of the Southern right whale (Eubalaena australis), in Puerto del Este, Río Negro Province, Argentina, the presence of a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae), was verified very close to the coast feeding over a school of anchovy (Engraulis anchoita) simultaneously with two species of dolphins, marine birds and sea lions. Although the occurrence of this species of whale near the shore at the Argentine coast became not as rare as it was years before, this was the first time that such feeding behavior has been observed. Food availability as anchovy and crustaceans would constitute an attraction for the specie to come near the shore and to spend some time out of their normal route of migration to the southern feeding grounds. Reports of sightings and strandings for the specie have been increasing along the coast of the South West Atlantic for the last decade due to population recovery.
