This work focuses on the role of the prefrontal cortex, especially the órbitofrontal and medial pre-frontal regions, in regulating social behavior (Wood, 2003) and the learning of rules (Anderson et. al., 1999). This work includes neuropsychogical concepts of a modality of intervention on executive functions and social skills, adapted to a school scope at poverty risk. Besides, the present work analyse the role of the executive functions on the social abilities’s learning. As part of a wider programme, we worked with all the children (n=80), both sexes, between 6 and 10 years of age, attending the first year of the General Basic Education, at a high poverty-related risk school (Paraná City, Argentina). Among a larger number of tests, the following were administered: “Simon says” game to asess executive control (Lavoie et al, 1981; in Zelazo, 1996), Stroop “Sun-Moon” test for the inhibitory control (Archibald, 1999), the Hanoi Tower (two rings) for the problem solving, the Children Assertive Behavior Scale (CABS) (Michelson, Sugai, Wood y Kazdin, 1987- De la Peña, V.; Hernández, E. y Rodríguez Díaz, F. J., 2003). Changes in self regulation and associations with social skills, following recent theoretical models, will be discussed.
