In the context of the global environmental crisis, characterized by an increase in extreme weather events, the Gran Buenos Aires (GBA) faces multiple urban-environmental problems. This article focuses on the San Francisco and Las Piedras stream basin in Claypole, and aims to characterize the urban, environmental, and housing conditions of the Medalla Milagrosa neighborhood, with a focus on the problem of flooding, and to analyze the strategies developed by communities and existing organizations to mitigate this problem. Using a mixed-methods approach, the urban, environmental, and housing conditions were characterized, identifying structural vulnerabilities such as a lack of basic services, precarious construction, stream pollution, and a high frequency of flooding, with impacts on health and daily life. The strategies developed by the community and local organizations were also examined, revealing the prevalence of palliative, household-based responses, while collective initiatives such as the Proyecto Hábitat Claypole have the potential for participatory approaches and nature-based solutions, although with limitations in their scope and integration with public policies.
