This article analyses the different social constructions of a landscape and contributes to the historical study of Argentinian archaeology. It does this by way of a comparative and contextualized analysis of the archaeological cartography of La Cueva gorge, which is the product of various different agents. We propose that the variety of socio-historical contexts within which these documents were made, as well as the objectives and theoretical frameworks of their creators, generated different interpretations of this socially constructed archaeological landscape. Where this article differs from previous research is it analyses part of the disciplinary history of this sector from the point of view of a previously unexplored variable: cartography.
