In his narration of the battle of Nájera, Ayala clearly establishes that the decision of Henry II to go to this decisive battle does not imply ignoring the accepteci doctrine that stated that this instance should be avoided. On the contrary, Henry II's decision obeys to political reasons of an order superior to the tactics. There is no contradiction then between this passage and the one in which the author narrates the Portuguese campaign of John I.
