Clases sociales, trabajo de campo y desigualdad: Discusiones a partir del enfoque etnográfico

Abstract

Este artículo aborda la construcción de conocimientos desde un enfoque etnográfico, discutiendo centralmente las particularidades que implica el acceso al trabajo de campo y su desarrollo con distintas clases sociales, junto con el análisis de algunas herramientas teórico-metodológicas para el abordaje de la desigualdad social. Los referentes empíricos y conceptuales surgen de nuestro trabajo en el marco de la antropología y la educación, especialmente en base a nuestras investigaciones realizadas con familias y escuelas en dos sectores socioeconómicos sumamente disímiles. Cuestionaremos supuestos teórico-metodológicos presentes en la literatura sociológica sobre las dificultades de acceso a la vida cotidiana de los sujetos de investigación y al rol subalterno del investigador según trabaje con distintas clases sociales. Plantearemos que tales dificultades no son patrimonio exclusivo del trabajo con ningún grupo social. Finalmente, retomaremos la asimetríafundamental existente entre investigador y sujetos investigados, constitutiva de todo trabajo etnográfico, señalando que la misma es constantemente negociada con los sujetos de la investigación, independientemente de su clase social de pertenencia.This paper deals with the construction of knowledge from an ethnographic approach, focusing specifically on the particularities of the access and development of the field-work with different social classes. It also includes the analysis of some theoretical-methodological tools for the study of social inequality. The empirical and conceptual referents are based on our work within the area of Anthropology and Education -particularly our investigations with families and schools in two profoundly different social-economical sectors. We discuss theoretical-methodological assumptions -present in some of the sociological literature- about the difficulties for accessing the everyday life of the subjects and the subaltern role of the researcher depending on the social class he/she works with. We claim that such difficulties cannot be ascribed exclusively to the field-work with any social group. Finally, we draw attention to the fundamental asymmetry existent between researcher and subjects of the investigation –constitutive of all ethnographic approach-, pointing out that it is constantly negotiated, regardless the class the subjects belong to.
