This article addresses a problem of increasing relevance in the social sciences: that one related to the anatomy and the effects of urban renewal processes. It does not stop in any of the many metropolitan areas of the region, but in an intermediate city: Neuquén, in Argentine Patago-nia. The chosen time arc corresponds to the 2010-2018 period, when the height growth gained an unusual impetus. The itinerary followed by the text identifies four moments. In the first, focus is on the social division of space in the capital of Neuquén. In the second, the factors that led to the process of verticalization (urbanization of capital, extractive economy, regulatory flexibility and cultural transformations) will be reviewed. In the third, the text will stop in the process of (re) densification, emphasizing the quantity, location and size of the towers that sprayed the geography of the city. Finally, we will analyze the social effects that growth in height brought with it, based on the assumption that it was an exclusive renova-tion process, which reinforced the city’s segregation map.
