Vacant land represents a considerable percentage of the surface in Latin American cities that, at the same time, grow by expanding more and more. The existence of these spaces implies waste and shows the weaknesses of local governments to plan urban growth. In this framework, it is necessary to identify and characterize these lands as well as the attributes they possess, in order to prioritize them for future use, based on sustainable criteria: the efficient use of urban infrastructure, the reduction of flood risks, the accessibility, density and completeness of the urban fabric. Therefore, the objective of this article is to build a methodology for the analysis of vacant land, in order to recognize those with priority for use based on their attributes, based on sustainability criteria. This methodology is applied in the partido de La Plata.
