Faced with the limitations of the global agrifood system to guarantee access to healthy food and preserve agroecosystems, knowing the perception of local actors involved in horticultural activity is essential for the management and participatory design of policies aimed at preserving these productive territories and promote the agroecological transition. In Argentina, La Plata Horticultural Belt (CHP) (Buenos Aires) represents one of the main horticultural areas of the country. In this work, through semi–structured interviews and participant observation, the perceptions of various actors linked to the CHP were investigated regarding the predominant industrial horticulture model, the public policies implemented and the possibilities of changing towards an agroecological–based model. The interviewees describe a productive territory in crisis and identify numerous deficiencies in the hegemonic productive model. At the state level, various visions coexist on the industrial horticulture and agroecological models, with tensions and power relations that condition the massification of agroecological transition processes in the territory. However, those who live and work there have knowledge, experiences and proposals to advance the development of a sustainable productive territory.
