The development of raster-based hydrologic models is an interesting alternative to overcome the scarcity of hydrologic and climatic data in places like the valley of Lerma, Argentina. Different methods were tested in a GIS context to define the following continuous variables: rainfall, maximum water volume and soil loss. The models showing the best adjustments were: regressions between altitude and latitude for climatic variables; the method of the Curve Number to calculate maximum water volumes at pixel level (e.g. 625 sq m), including water runoff accumulation; and the application of the RUSLE to estimate soil loss. The output thematic maps can be applied to a variety of: studies ranging from environmental impact analysis, territorial planning and hazard predictions.
