e Battle of Caseros made possible the construction of a liberal narrative in which a fragile and imprecise nation, in opposition to anarchist barbarism, tried to inaugurate a safe march towards modernity and its progress. In line with Foucault's analysis, the power to punish and control that exists within a society could not be seen without understanding how wealth circulates, it is produced, and what risks it is subjected to. From this strictly methodological proposal, we will analyze how much of that supposedly dialectical liberal narrative was, historically, a negation. e history of the government of the bodies of those who submit to public force may show us, despite the change in legitimacy offered by the discourse of public coercion aer 1852, a profound continuity that may even continue to this day, so that could help us understand our current prison situation in Argentina. With this objective we will try to show how much of the method Foucault used for European punitivism can be applied to study the process that took place in our South American context.
