In the context of the democratizing processes of the region, the profle of Latin American Rights is changing: they are organized in parties competing in elections, adapting traditional values to contemporary societies, modifying political elite’s recruitment mechanisms and shaping their leaders according to political marketing advice. After more than a decade of center-left governments, South American new Rights are coming into government. In Argentina, this phenomenon is represented by the emergence and consolidation of a new party, Propuesta Republicana (PRO). Is the break with the past and the innovation of these parties that radical? This article proposes as an interpretive hypothesis that the understanding of the PRO as a representative example of the new Latin American Right depends on the way of conceiving the diferent temporalities that coexist in the present. To address this issue, the appropriation of the concept of republic and republican themes and rhetoric in the political discourse of the PRO is analyzed. This perspective sheds light on the links that this political force establishes with other political traditions and identities, a link that doesn’t just come down to the dichotomy between liberal republic and populism.
