In Argentina, in the first half of the twentieth century, "military history" was produced and taught mainly by Armed Forces officers. For this reason, the monumental intellectual and editorial project of the National Academy of History Historia de la Nación Argentina – led by Ricardo Levene – included chapters on war and war forces that were written by military. The article discusses the relationships that can be recognized between the training, profiles and career paths of these military –in particular Army officers– and their conceptions on "military history", especially their definitions of two key categories at that time: "decisive battle" and enemy "annihilation". Finally, the work proposes some dialogues between this traditional "military history" and historiographic renewal on the war study currently underway in the Argentine academic and scientific field.
