The environmental issue has taken on a large scale in the world and has become of central importance in the debate on the future of humanity. From there, national and global regulations emerge from the perspective of remediation of the environmental crisis, promoting the same paradigm of modernity; and on the other hand we can observe the enlargements of the conflictuality between appropriations and valuation of natural and immaterial goods, above all by peasants and native peoples and rurbanas populations. From this scenario we understand that the environmental question is related to two processes of capitalist modernity: the social question and the agrarian question. Thus, the work reconstructs the environmental issue beyond a perspective of sustainable development. Either through the problematization of Western modernity or the emergence of the environmental issue aimed at a societal and epistemic shift, emerging as a new paradigmatic dimension, established from the rescue of the rights of the being or subaltern legalities, the dialogue of knowledge or a prudent science, struggles for reexistence and popular ecology, good living and nature as a subject, among others. We consider that the environmental, social and agrarian question has enabled on the one hand to highlight the critique of the hegemonic paradigm of modernity and, on the other hand, to promote strategies in the direction of social emancipation.
