In May 2022, the truth trial for the Napalpí massacre (1924) culminated through public actions carried out in the cities of Resistencia, Machagai and Buenos Aires. The sentence he obtained defines this and other massacres as crimes against humanity, committed within the framework of a process of genocide of indigenous peoples. In this article we try to contribute to the periodization of the development of the concept of genocide at a global and local level, and we will investigate how the proposal to characterize as genocide the “Conquest of the Desert” in Pampa, Patagonia and Chaco and the subsequent indigenous policy, was gaining consensus in different areas and over time until it became possible to promote historical reparation processes in the judicial field.
