This article aims to describe the organizational models, rules and practices of the Argentinean and Brazilian Episcopal Conferences in detail. The elaborated institutional radiograph shows the organization and powers of the General Assemblies, the Episcopal Commissions and other decisionmaking levels. The comparative perspective allows us to analyze not only the convergences between the canonical structures of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina (CEA) and the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB), but also the differences linked with the pastoral structures. The various lay organizations accompanying the CNBB generate a dynamic interaction between different segments of the Catholic institution. This causes a minor degree of verticality in the ecclesial relationships than in the Argentine case.
