Due to the recent dynamics of inflationary acceleration in Argentina as a result of the shift of economic paradigm, this article aims to analyse and estimate the loss of purchasing power suffered by different segments of society. To this end, the conjunction between the identification of the consumption patterns, and together with the measurement of the disaggregated inflation in 56 items of goods and services allows us to capture the decline in purchasing power for each family. Likewise, this work is complemented with a proposal to differentiate between essential and nonessential goods and services in order to be able to build consumption baskets more relevant to the households gathered at the ends of the per-capita expenditure distribution. The sequence of economic measures such as devaluation, elimination of trade policy, dismantling of price agreements, liberalization of exports and increase of tariffs has not only generated an inflationary acceleration but also a change in relative prices particularly detrimental to the consumer basket of the most vulnerable sectors of society.
