Aradidae include more than 2050 species, commonly known as “bark bugs”. They are flattened dorsoventrally, generally live under the bark of dead trees, between woods or on the leaf litter of the ground, and are mycetophagous. They are currently grouped into eight subfamilies. In Argentina there are 14 genera and 41 species, included in subfamilies Aradinae, Aneurinae, Calisiinae, Isoderminae and Mezirinae. A synopsis is presented referring to morphological aspects of the group, taxonomic history, phylogenetic aspects, health importance, biological data, main collections of Argentina, current classification of the family, bibliography, and a key to the identification of the subfamilies present in the Neotropical region and the genera found in Argentina. A list and geographical distribution of the species mentioned is attached.
