The morality/ethics dialectics—whose main referents are Kant and Hegel— crosses all Western modernity and becomes more complex in Latin America in relation to the colonial situation. We propose to explore two critical formulations of such dialectic tension—one supported by the Frankfurt tradition in Jürgen Habermas’s Writings on Morality and Ethics, and the other by the Latin American thinking tradition in the opposition between The Ethics of Power and the Morality of the Protest by Arturo Roig. Between both formulations, it is possible to establish complementarity relationships and to identify divergences.
