A morphometric and morphotectonic characterization was carried out for an intermontane basin located in the folded and thrust belt of the central precordillera to evaluate the conditioning and triggering factors that influence the occurrence of mass movement processes. This analysis provides a more accurate understanding of the influence of tectonic processes during the Quaternary in the genesis and control of drainage patterns, as well as identifies areas with a high susceptibility to mass movement events. The study was carried out using a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and satellite imagery obtained through Google Earth© and the swath profile application. The basin delineation revealed an asymmetric, elongated shape tilted to the east, associated with the configuration of piggyback-type basins. The dynamics of the landslides and the conditions favoring their occurrence are partially related to the morphometric and morphotectonic characteristics of the river basins, as well as the relief features. Landslide triggering is mainly associated with seasonal rains and seismic events that occurred during the Pleistocene-Holocene associated with a nearby seismogenic source in the study area.
