The archaeology of the province of Córdoba, especially in the southern sector of the Southern Pampas Mountains, has been the focus of archaeological research for the last 140 years. Although this interest in discovering and studying the ways of life of preHispanic societies that inhabited this area seems a detailed and synchronous task, the fact is that much of the archaeology of the Sierras has been marked by asynchronous hiatuses of little to no research, where a wide range of researchers and teams have converged in various institutions, adhering to heterogeneous theoretical and practical affiliations. The sum total of the research conducted throughout has resulted in an ample array of time constructs that the archaeological community has formulated to measure and chronologically situate within the archaeological timeframe its objects of study. This paper, without striving to unify specialists’ criteria, aims to highlight --from a qualitative and quantitative approach-- how such constructs were conceived and used at different moments in the development of the field of study. We start then from the presumption that there is a large body of definitions to refer to specific moments in time and many of them coexist simultaneously in the literature. We thus focus on the premise that time is a fundamental category for our field and that, in general, it has not received a critical treatment within this region’s archaeology.
