In recent decades, environmental issues have gained greater prominence. Environmental education and science education, in an integrated way, aim to empower future citizens to contribute to the transition towards environmentally just and sustainable societies. This paper describes the experience of the workshop "Which role does water play in your life?" implemented in seven high schools within the Parque Costero del Sur Biosphere Reserve (Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina). The structure of each meeting consisted of a presentation, a recreational activity, an individual production stage (based on three axes: origin and uses of the water, characterization of the available sources and treatment strategies adopted in the domestic sphere), a production stage group (based on the interpretation of different cases, containing the description of a water source and the results of a quality analysis carried out on it) and a closure. In general, students do not recognize this territory as a protected area. Knowledge, beliefs, and information levels were identified in relation to each of the proposed axes. This information can be used as input for the design of a specific and contextualized teaching unit.
