The spectroscopic plates of the Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísicas of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata date back to the 20th century, from 1904 to the mid-1980s. Their enhancement is done by a multidisciplinary team that selects the material considering the forms of manipulation, sanitation, saving, execution times, appropriate readings and research. This heritage comprises glass, photographic emulsions, paper, various inks and pencils. Therefore, it is necessary to differentiate between biodeterioration and traumatic deterioration. Along with this outline of guidelines, we also present a taxonomic criterion for the classification of photographic plates in their archival version, identifying and grouping the objects/plates into stages based on their safeguarding, their accessibility and, therefore, made known.
