In this essay, I will focus on the history of the Jewish theater of Buenos Aires in its first decades, in the period 1901-1930. I aim to explore the development process of the Yiddish theater scene in Buenos Aires, inquiring about the reasons that caused its expansion since the ’20s. I will also explore the obstacles that this theatre had to face until finally reaching its peak in the 30s. By doing this, I will try to show the important role that the theater play in the life of the Jewish immigrants that arrived in Argentina and to demonstrate how the Jewish theatre functioned as a meeting place that allowed the newcomers to build an identity and, at the same time, create connections with their new country.
