Labor insertion processes of workers vary according to the “world of work” in which they occur, and are conditioned by different structural factors and relationships between social actors. In this article, we propose to characterize the world of oil and gas in the geological formation called Vaca Muerta in the province of Neuquén, Argentina. We analyze the changes that the introduction of unconventional methods for the exploitation of hydrocarbons (fracking), presents new conditions for workers in the sector, both at the level of the regulations governing the sector, as well as the profile of workers and their training demand. For this, secondary data sources are analyzed (the collective agreements that govern the activity, the educational offer oriented to the sector that exists in the region), as well as interviews to managers of oil companies of different types (operators and oil services) and of human resources consultants working in the area, and teachers of TVET institutions oriented to the sector.
