We propose and discuss a voting rule based on a majority support index that each alternative receives in pairwise comparisons: the one that receives the minimum value of this indicator or score is eliminated from the individual voters' orders and the indicator is computed again, and so on until only one alternative remains, which is the winner. With this rule (majoritarian support with iterative elimination, or MSE) we look for the property that the winning alternative is never covered by others and that, furthermore, it is included in the Banks Set. That it is not covered means that no alternative that beats it in a pairwise comparison beats, in turn, all the alternatives that it beats. That it is part of the Banks Set means that it is one of the restricted equilibria that sophisticated strategic voters would arrive at. MSE is also a condorcetian rule, in the sense that, if a Condorcet winner exists, then the rule determines the choice of it. Regarding possible epistemic credentials, MSE cannot be interpreted as a maximum plausibility estimator (like Kemeny-Young, Borda, or others). However, it can be argued in favor of an epistemic notion whose roots go away from Condorcet but reach Rousseau and his idea of the general will.
