Although thereinforcement ofsoilsby the addition of fibersis an oldtechnique(e.g. the adobe), just in the last 20 years its study has caught the researchers interest. This study presents a state of the art review about fiber reinforced soils. Type of fibers, usual contents and the behaviorobserved in both granular and cohesive soils is considered. Also, predictive models of fiber reinforced soils are presented. The different criteria found in literature to analyze thebehavior offiber reinforced soil are discussed. It is concluded that fiber addition increases ductility and shear strength for large strains in cohesive and granular soils. Finally, somepotential applications and existing projects where fiber reinforced soil has been used are presented.
