This study aims to understand the assessment practices developed by memorable teachers in the Geography Teacher Training Program at the National University of the Northeast. It identifies, characterizes, and analyzes the assessment strategies involved in their teaching. The methodological design adopted a qualitative approach, under the hermeneutic paradigm and a biographical-narrative methodology. The research unfolded in two stages: initially, we conducted semi-structured surveys with students and graduates to identify these professors. Subsequently, with the selected teachers, we delved deeper through in-depth interviews, non-participant classroom observations, and analysis of curricular documents. This publication focuses on the data obtained from the second stage, where the collected information was triangulated, coded, and categorized for analysis. The findings indicate that memorable professors are distinguished by their profound professional expertise in the disciplinary content and their ability to transform it into teachable knowledge, complemented by personal qualities such as commitment and passion. It was observed that they apply authentic and situated assessment, which reflects the disciplinary complexity and allows students to demonstrate not only what they know but also what they can do with that knowledge in real situations, in addition to building evaluative judgment from the diverse assessment strategies they implement. In conclusion, it was explicitly stated that the assessment practices of these teachers exemplify good teaching, promoting meaningful learning by focusing on objectives across various domains of knowledge rather than merely on grading outcomes.
