This work is inserted in the analysis of queer childhoods in Argentina in the sixties. Following the ethnographic method and using the life story of Genaro, an Afro-umbandista pai de santo from the Buenos Aires conurbation, the article explores the representations of queer childhood through his testimony, in connection with the review of two very popular characters among children and family audiences of the decade: Barney Rubble and Mafalda. In an era prior to identity politics and the advances in individual rights that would come later for the LGBTI+ community, non-heteronormative childrens found in these products of mass culture, forms of representation that in one sense or another enabled modes of subjectivation.
