The automotive industry has a significant weight in the Argentinian and Brazilian economic structure and has been a relevant subject of the specialized literature. This article aims to analyze the recent evolution of foreign trade among the main auto parts groups, with a focus on changes in imports. Thus, this work studies the evolution of imports in the 2010-2019 period from Mercosur and a representative group of Asian countries: China, South Korea, Japan and Thailand. The paper reveals that despite the centrality of the automotive complex in the Argentina-Brazil integration process, the Asian participation in imports of auto parts has grown steadily, especially in some subheadings. In particular, China and Thailand were the Asian partners that grew the most as auto parts suppliers in the region, which is explained by the growing insertion of these countries in automotive global value chains, especially after the international economic crisis of 2008-2009.
