The quality of the images supplied by any image forming system and in particular by the eye, is affected by aberrations which are frequently quantified expanding the wavefront aberration function in Zernike polynomials. The coefficients of this expansion, for a given object point and for a given centre and size of the pupil, are characteristic of the system. In the present article, analytical explicit formulas for Zernike coefficients of up to 4th order corresponding to a pupil in terms of those corresponding to another pupil for which coefficients of up to 7th order are evaluated via ray tracing, are written. To exemplify the use of these formulas, two applications are shown, the calculation of new coefficients corresponding to the cornea of a subject whose dominant aberrations are 2nd order astigmatism and 3rd order trefoil and to an optical system which originally only has 4th order spherical aberration.
