The pourpose of this paper is to analyze some changes in the Publishing Direction role, analyzing the operation of the major publishers in Argentina today. We will analyze the specific logics and tensions that occur within the largest publishing companies in Argentina, Penguin Random House and Planeta. Concentration and transnationalization occurred in the nineties led to new forms of work and organization, and the incorporation of publishers book marketing techniques. Parting from interviews we will identify and analyze contradictions between actors with particular positions in the publishing field, who share a "practical sense of the publisher" that shapes their habitus and refers to a number of provisions for action. This practical sense consists in an articulation of technical and theoretical knowledges and intuitive and creative processes which together perform a specific practical rationality of the editors and publishers.
