Introduction The Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination (ACE) is a brief screening battery. Validation in Argentina has been performed in highly educated population, being a limitation for its application mainly in public institutions. The aim of this paper is to analyze the psychometric properties of ACE in a sample of old people with low socio-educational level with and without dementia. Methods The final sample was constituted by 75 participants (31 patients with Alzheimer disease dementia and 44 participants in the normative group). The socio-educational level was calculated by Hollingshead's index. Results An internal consistency of.709 was observed. Concurrent validity with Clinical Dementia Ranking (CDR) proved to be significant (Rho = –.425, P <.017). ROC curve analysis was performed with ACE and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and it was found that the former has a major area under the curve, indicating a better discriminating capacity. A score of 70 was suggested as cutoff with a sensitivity of 84% and a specificity of 84%. Conclusion In this paper we show some of the psychometric properties of the ACE in patients with low socio-educational level. Also a cutoff point is provided for clinical use. The results could be used in patients in the lowest social strata, which is more common in the Public Health Subsector in our country.
