In De Abraham Ambrose of Milan submits the narrative content of Abraham’s life to a double rhetorical treatment, in which the bodily and sensory metaphors constitute the path of confluence between the pastoral intention of the first book and the exegetical one of the second. Thanks to the metaphorical deployment, especially around the idea of the path, the two interpretations converge in a single sense, the Christian value of life and the qualities of the correct choice that the man who wants to be saved must make. For this reason, the sermon is addressed to everyone: whether they are Christians in formation or educated intellects, Ambrose’s discourse focuses on certain and incontrovertible meanings of the human corporeal-sensory model and therein lies the effectiveness of his message.
