This article covers Espinosa Medrano’s sermons, analyzing the way in which he "brings" the authorities and scholarship to the pulpit as composition cores, putting it in connection with the sacred guidelines (Gracian’s Art of wit and acuity, mostly) and Ratio Studiorum on one hand and with the linguistic and cultural practices of the time on the other, which are influenced by the display of wit and erudition, the link with the audience, the colonial society and the intellectual ties.
