This article analyzes the negotiation power of union organizations, investigating the link between associative power and structural power. We will carry out a comparative analysis between the Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Alimentación and the Union Obrera Metalúrgica of Argentina, studying the use of that power in labor conflicts and its impact on the salary agreements signed between the years 2011-2019.We will use the following data sources: the national input product matrix, the database of strikes and the wage agreements endorsed by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, and journalistic sources. We will show that, with regard to the evaluation of wage bargaining power, the associative power would occupy a secondary role with respect to the structural power linked to the economic characteristics of the economic sectors. Trade unions in sectors that have strategic economic position are in a better situation to obtain better wage results.
