In the context of conducting an ethnography of yoga in large urban centers, we have observed in recent years the growing emergence of the well-being category - its pursuit and maintenance - as one of the main reasons for the practice of this Eastern-rooted discipline in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In this regard, well-being is associated with notions of health, spirituality, connection to the sacred, body, self-care, and lifestyles. Despite its persistent argumentation, the meanings attributed to well-being and the associated experiences exhibit differences and nuances that must be considered. We propose to analyze the wellbeing category in terms of a polysemic category, which would reflect facets of a broader phenomenon of the emergence of individualistic paradigms that propose or advocate the imperative of health and wellbeing in terms of individual responsibility.
