Unveiling the past: Victor Ramos and history

Abstract

Victor Ramos’s achievements on tectonics—especially significant to our understanding of southern Gondwana—are impressive. Papers on this topic attest to the importance and extent of his contributions. But Victor’s research has another perhaps less well-known dimension, which reflects his interest in history, and particularly, in the history of geology. With more than fifty scientific articles, four authored books, ten edited volumes, numerous book chapters, and many lectures and seminars, Ramos has become a benchmark figure in geohistorical scholarship. This article surveys his principal contributions, discusses recurring themes and methodological approaches, and situates his work within both Argentine and international historiography of the geological sciences.
