How do you throw a brick through a bank window if you can't get out of bed? This question by Johanna Hedva is the starting point of this text, in which I unfold the main hypotheses of an ongoing project whose purpose is to contribute to the construction of a critical theory of "mental health". The article seeks to compose the registers of lived experience, the Argentinean conjuncture, the theoretical debate around the cultural politics of emotions and activisms in "mental health". Within this framework, in the first section I make three approaches to Hedva's question from the perspective of a "politics of the symptomatic". In the second, I argue in favor of a philosophical investigation of negative affects and feeling structures, in discussion with the reduction of moods to psychological issues, medical concerns or mere effects of social causes. In the third one, I dwell on the idea according to which depression and anxiety constitute today the key words to name sufferings in late capitalism. And lastly, I analyze some ambivalent functions that discomforts can fulfill within the processes of social and subjective transformation. This final section sketches a shift from the politicization of discomfort to discomforts in the practices of politicization.
