The federalisation of science, technology and innovation is a public policy objective that can be pursued from different approaches, with different modalities of policy instruments and through a heterogeneous set of funding mechanisms. This paper examines and relates these components, taking as a case study the instrument for the promotion of innovation convened by the Federal Council of Science and Technology of the Argentine Republic. Although the emphasis is placed on the most recent call, called Federal Innovation Projects, the analysis in socio-historical perspective allows us to reconstruct the trajectory of the instrument and raise critical questions, with the interest of contributing to the study and management of science, technology and innovation policies and instruments.
